Alarming Recording Reveals Point Officers Get Knifed in Ambush
One senior officer who jumped to the assistance of a fellow officer that got attacked by a blade-wielder was granted the Monarch's Honor for Valor.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-yr-old Jacob Brown after he held a blade to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a traffic accident in that location in July 2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.
"Officer knifed," the constable could be heard saying over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashcam recording released by the agency showed Brown, wearing in black with a hood covering head, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife outstretched.
He ran into the officer who lost balance and went down to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground although being repeatedly struck with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a open target, bringing the confrontation to an conclusion.
Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell suffered multiple open wounds to his throat and more cuts to his limbs and body, while Sgt Foster experienced slash wounds.
The department stated Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stop his colleague's hemorrhaging before emergency responders arrived.
This most recent recognition follows after the three officers were granted internal Courage Honors in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional Police Federation in early 2024.
They further earned a Area Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The actions of all three officers in the end protected themselves and ensured no civilians endured any harm."
Brown was given to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, as stated by authorities.
