Exploring an Unique Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found plenty of interesting independent titles. Yet, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer lets you play a hero that is actually a piece of poop trying to navigate to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is simple: press a single jump button. In one hundred fifty stages, encounter mini-bosses and visit a store to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Time your actions with caution, since one wrong move requires restarting the level. Bounce on bubbles to hurl your character higher, navigate disappearing surfaces, and touch switches to reveal new areas. Gather currency to purchase more difficult stages where the action gets crazy.
Visually, the demo boasts eye-catching environments and a killer background music. The retro visual style of shifting geometric shapes could recall fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's tough to think of other games where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as plant food. Naturally, this theme shows up extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly premise, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is accessible currently on Steam, with the final release set to debut on Steam this November.
