Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Shelter Assault Dies
A woman stabbed repeatedly to her neck area in an unprovoked attack near a bus shelter in Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.
The deceased woman, aged 34 years, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, just outside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 9 PM GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.
The suspect, 21, was presented at Birmingham Magistrates Court Monday morning, charged over the violent incident.
He was previously accused with attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
The force said police personnel will remain around the city centre on Monday providing public assurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, identified as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.
Incident Location
The stabbing happened near Bullring retail complex, opposite primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.
Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating they were working to understand the motive behind.
Eyewitness Reports
Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her work period around 10 PM on Friday.
She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, adding that co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances at about 21:00.
"A lot of my colleagues use transit services, take the tram... our safety is at risk fundamentally, in the downtown area."
Another individual, 25, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently visiting his partner resident there, expressing concern regarding the incident.
"It makes me worried for my girlfriend," he said.
"She lacks transportation employed at all of the big music venues... considering a totally random act [happened], you know, it's horrible."
